Backcountry Cooking

Are you looking to get past peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and ramen on your next adventure?

Maybe you're planning a backpacking trip this summer or headed out glamping with the girls and not quite sure what to eat and how to cook it?

In our backcountry cooking clinic, you'll join Basecamp staff as we teach you how to set up a camp kitchen, food safety in the backcountry and how to prepare delicious meals for you and your friends.

During this hands-on clinic, we'll cover everything from proper food handling to pro-tips on food preparation before you even hit the trails or head to the campsite. You'll learn about cooking using a backpacking stove, campfire (as long as there isn't a fire ban), 2 burner stove and dutch oven. Bring your appetite!

We'll be tasting everything from freeze-dried backpacking meals to dutch oven meals. We'll provide the stoves, cookware, and food. Bring your own non-alcoholic beverage and be prepared for a fun evening of learning and eating.

Meet at Basecamp and we'll transport you to and from our field kitchen on Pole Mountain for the evening. Please let us know of any allergies or dietary restrictions one week prior to the clinic.

Instructor Bio:
Rebecca Walsh is the owner of Basecamp, the founder of Hike Like A Woman, a community for outdoor women and the co-owner of Just Trails. She's also the author of the books, How To Hike When You're Pregnant and How To Hike With Kids.

Every once in while she appears on television. Rebecca's been featured on the PBS television show Travels With Darley and on promotional videos for Albany County Tourism and Wyoming Tourism. She's also appeared in the New York Times, Real Simple Magazine, The Dyrt and partnered with some of the biggest brands in the outdoor industry.

When Rebecca isn't hanging out at Basecamp, hiking, cross-country skiing guiding trips, leading her local hiking group, writing about hiking, or teaching online outdoor classes, she's probably doing all of those other stereotypical Mom things like folding laundry while updating social media and recording podcast episodes while cooking dinner.
