Get ready for a fun winter of cross-country skiing!
We're excited to offer professional cross-country ski lessons for children this winter.
If you've joined us in the past for our free children's ski lessons these lessons kick it up a notch.
This ski program will follow a curriculum designed to teach children the fundamental skills of cross-country skiing in a fun and safe environment. Lessons will build on each other with the goal to work towards confidence on nordic skis.
We'll work on the following skills in the classic technique during our lessons:
- The basics of cross-country ski equipment
- Understanding the body's center of mass and weight transfer in the diagonal stride
- Kicking and gliding
- Uphill diagonal stride
- Double poling
- Double pole with kick
Enrollment in Team Polar Bear will include 4 professional ski lessons.
These lessons will occur from 10:30-11:30 am at Chimney Park
) Please note that our permits do not allow us to teach weekend lessons at Tie City/Happy Jack due to overcrowding. The trails at Chimney Park however, do have a better space and terrain for teaching ski lessons.
Lessons will occur on 2/6/21, 2/13/21, 2/20/21 & 2/27/21. Depending on the needs of group and our remaining USFS permit user days we may plan one additional ski lesson in March.
We will adhere to a strict COVID policy and would ask parents to monitor children's health and refrain from bringing sick or exposed children to class. We require face masks to be worn at all times during our lessons unless we are taking breaks for snacks and water -or- properly spaced out for a mask break.
We know that skiing is always unpredictable and will also reschedule any lessons that need to be canceled due to cold weather or bad roads.
Registration for the Polar Bear Ski Team ends on February 1st. We are only able to enroll 10 children into this session, 5 children/instructor. Please register soon so we can guarantee a spot for your child.
After registration you'll be contacted by Rebecca and asked to sign our waiver and fill out an information sheet for your child. We will be in touch with parents after registration ends where we'll discuss things like what children should wear and bring, what to expect, how we'll break down into smaller groups and our COVID safe procedures.
Please contact Rebecca with any questions (firstname.lastname@example.org).
