Are you looking to get off the grid and hone your backpacking skills?
Whether you're a novice or advanced backpacker you're invited to join Rebecca, the founder of Hike Like A Woman and owner of Basecamp for a ladies-only weekend backpacking trip in the rugged and beautiful backcountry of Southeastern Wyoming.
Enjoy a little “me time” away from the hustle and bustle of the every day. Unplug and focus on the simple things in the life that bring you joy. Take the time to bask in some self-care. It’s OK, you deserve it!
Connect with others. Meet amazing women from all over North America and get to know others who bring something different to the table. Make new life-long connections through the common thread of adventure.
Get to know yourself on a different level. Each adventure you take into the wilds is uniquely yours. Trying something new, meeting new people, or exploring a new place will teach you something about yourself you didn’t know before.
Learn new skills. Whether you’re a first-time backpacker or a seasoned pro, backpacking with others will always teach you new skills or a new way of doing something.
And of course breath-taking scenery. The Snowy Range in southeastern Wyoming is one of the most scenic areas in the state. Discover unique views of rocky peaks, mountain meadows, and alpine lakes.
All done with as much social distancing and COVID-19 safety precautions including face coverings during transportation to and from the trailhead, single tents and social distancing. The good news is that backpacking is the best social distancing activity ever :)
Meet at 9 a.m. at Basecamp South, 1404 Skyline, Laramie, WY. Free parking is available for the weekend just outside of our shop. Enjoy complimentary coffee and tea at Basecamp as we fit our backpacks and sleeping bags, divide up the gear among the group and pack our packs, all while learning about gear and how to pack your pack. During this time we'll also do a pre-trip meeting, talk about our goals for the weekend, pass out maps and go over the route.
Once we're all packed up we'll depart from Basecamp to the Snowy Range where we'll begin our journey and get to know what makes everyone so rad on the way. As we hike to our campsite for the night, the scenery will take your breath away and we'll stop often to take photographs, eat snacks and rest.
Our adventure will conclude near an alpine lake either 4 or 6 miles from the trailhead depending on how the group is feeling. Once we arrive at camp we'll take in the sites near the lake, enjoy a delicious meal, and enjoy the company of new friends as we relax at the campsite.
We'll wake up to the sound of birds chirping as we enjoy our morning coffee, tea, or hot chocolate surrounded by scenic vistas.
When we're ready we'll break camp and re-pack our packs for the day. Maybe you’ll find an easier way to pack!
There's no rush our second day, we'll hike 4-6 miles depending on how the group is feeling before we set up camp and enjoy our second night in the wilderness near another high alpine lake.
A delicious dinner will be served and we'll enjoy each other’s company, and learning new things about nature during a relaxing evening under the stars.
On Sunday morning we'll enjoy a leisurely breakfast before breaking camp. We'll take in the scenery on our last morning together as we head back to the trailhead. Our hike will take us 2-4 miles depending on where we camped the night before.
Once we reach the trailhead we'll celebrate with cold drinks and delicious food as we drive back to Laramie. After turning in our gear at Basecamp South we'll say "good-bye" and "see ya later". We'll plan on being back in Laramie by 3pm.
For those who are traveling, Basecamp South does not have shower facilities but we do have two large restrooms, and are happy to make accommodates for post-hike showers at a local gym for you.
Please note that we want everyone of all fitness abilities to be comfortable on this trip. There are several scenic campsites along the way so depending on the pace of the group the entire distance covered will be a minimum of 12 miles. Everyone is welcome, even if you feel like you aren't "fit" enough. We will move at a comfortable pace, stop frequently for snacks and to look at wildlife and indentify wildflowers and take pictures. The goal of this trip is to learn outdoor skills, make new friends, learn about backpacking and connect with nature.
Basecamp will provide all group equipment (stoves, fuel, water filters, medical and safety equipment), tents, sleeping bags, sleeping pads, backpacks, trekking poles, food, beverages, first-aid support, and guiding. We do offer single tents or double tents if you'd like to share with a friend.
You may bring your own tent, sleeping bag, sleeping pad and backpack but we are unable to offer a lower rate if you bring your own gear.
If you do decide to bring your own gear we recommend a 65 liter backpack and a sleeping bag with a minimum temperature rating of 20°F. If you bring your own gear and our guides feel like it doesn't fit you properly or won't keep you warm we may request that you use our complimentary gear instead.
All of our guides are Wilderness First Responders and we take your health and safety seriously on all trips.
We are able to accommodate most allergies and dietary restrictions. Please let us know if you have any food preferences upon registering.
